Question: i have a pontiac grand am and it has a hole where you put water what could of caused that

I just put a new thermostat in it

Are you saying that there is a hole in the overflow tank? Is it a hole where something should be plugged in, like a hose? Or a hole like it was broken when something hit it? There should be a small hose going into it from the bottom, that leads to the radiator neck.
