Question: I hit a pothole and my car leaked a fluid that smelled very bad.

I am not sure what the fluid is.

Maybe transmission fluid? Tow it to a repair shop and take a look. This is a good time to get your insurance involved.

Also, if you hit an unmarked road hazard, it may be the property owners (city?) responsibility to fix your car.
