Question: I was told I need ball joints and tie rods in my 98 Town car.

About how much does this usally cost? I live in Charlotte, NC.

You can use the 'repair cost calculator' to get an estimate on the repairs.

I did go to the repair cost calculator but was wondering if I did all of it at once would it be any cheaper? The site prices them out seperatly and it can cost up to $1800.

$1800 sounds too high, even individually. But yes, you need to disconnect the tie-rods to remove the ball joints, so it should be less if you do it together. The calculator isn't good at figuring that out, but repair shops can. Your best bet it is to call around and get an estimate on job, and ask them if it would be less to have them do it all together. And getting a second opinion on the urgency of the repair is also a good idea. That's a lot of money to be spending and unless you're wearing out your tires unusually fast, you usually have some time to budget for the project.

And try using an independent repair shop, as opposed to the dealership. They're cheaper and sometimes more qualified.

Thank you. I will call and talk to some independent shops. The dealer said it will cost $1500. But I think that is still too high.

Car Brakes: How Do You Know When to Change Them?

By Zach Bowman For those who suffer a daily commute through heavy traffic, your vehicle's braking system can bring thousands of pounds of metal, plastic and empty Starbucks cups to a stop hundreds of times before you get to work. It goes without saying that these pieces wear out, but they do so slowly, meaning you may not notice they need attention until ...
