Question: Is it possible to get pitted axels from regular driving

Yes one of our company vehicles had 2 wheel seals go out at the same time in the rear wheels and then when we went to go get those fixed up, they said that the axels were pitted. We've contacted a couple of friends that are like lifetime mechanics and they say NO ****ing way are the Axels pitted and have never seen it before. How about the online community of mechanics? It would require a full replacement of the rear axels. Thoughts
