Question: Is my transmission failing?

My car began to rev really high yesterday when I slowed down after accellerating while passing a car. Now it wont go faster than 30mph. The engine is revved really high but it won't go any faster. A week or so before this happened I noticed that the rpm needle would go up and down when driving at highway speeds.Could the transmission be gone or sumthing else?

Check the fluid level in the transmission. If low add fluid to it. If the fluid is really drown. Then you need a new transmission.
