Question: lifters or tappets aka valve lash adjusters

why would it cost more to replace lifters or tappets aka valve lash adjusters then "regular lifters" my mechanic added $500 dollars to my rebuild because my 2006 PT Cruiser has "special hydraulic lifter" and his advertised price was for "regular lifters" this seems excessive to me since lifters were listed as part of the rebuild

Some makes cost more for parts. Did he tell you this before taking the engine a part or after. If it was after then he should take the loss on parts. But if it was before then you will have to pay it or go to a different shop.
