Question: Locking system query

I have a Skoda Octavia 1.9TDi. Today I noticed that the red indicator light next to the driver's door lock button stays on even after I have locked the car from the outside with the key. I have checked all doors ? tailgate and they are are locked. The central locking system flashes inside the car and none of the interior lights appear to be on. What is the problem? I don't think the lock button indicator usually stays on, so it is quite puzzling and I am worried it will wear down the battery.

The dash warning indicators can be best interpreted using your owner's manual. There will a few pages in there telling you what the lights should do, and what they mean when they come on. If you don't have your owner's manual you can download it from the VW website.

If the light is not supposed to be on, it is possible it is a problem with the vehicle's anti-theft system. If it's an aftermarket system you'll need to consult a repair shop to check it out.

The light is not going to drain the battery significantly. Unless you leave it parked for several days (or possibly even a week) without starting it, don't worry about it.
