Question: ma car inside lights wont go off

i take out the key and open the door it still make the ding sound like my key is still in then i get out and close the door my inside lights wont go off even if i get back in and start the car they still wont go out the inside light switch is off and the head lamp swith is turned to off

It sounds like the ignition switch is sensing that the key is still in the ignition. Testing the switch electrically would be the logical first thing to do.
