Question: maintence book calls timing belt change at 90000

Toyota dealership says time to change with no hard evidence for need,. local highly respected mechanic after rather cursory exam,thought no need to change .engine running well. What evidence of timing belt failure do I need to aware of? Don't want to cause damage.

Timing belts are maintenance items, not wear items. You replace them by mileage, not by wear. You can double-check the mileage recommended on the 'your service schedule' link on this site. And you'll save $ by having it done by an independent shop and not the dealer.
