Question: Manual Transmission up a hill

On two occasions, my 2012 Ford Focus stalled out of 1st gear on a steep hill. When I tried again to put the car in 1st and floored the gas, it stalled again. This is super scary and dangerous. I took it to the dealer to have them see what is wrong. Has anyone with a 5 speed manual transmission had that problem?! Help!! I have only had it for 2 1/2 weeks!!
