Question: misfire in engine, causes?

i have a nissan altima 05 about 140,000 miles. engline light appears sometimes but runs smoothly then engine light appears and when braking car will shake then stop while driving.. engine light isnt always on, sometimes light will remain for 3 days then shuts off. ive replaced spark plugs, air filter, MAF sensor, and had a tune up. could the coils be causing this problem?

If the check engine light is on, it is indicating that something (out of hundreds of things) is out of parameters. You will need to have it scanned using a diagnostic scan tool to get the codes, in order to troubleshoot further. Anything else is just guessing.
