Question: My A/C blows cold air but fan sometimes works and sometimes doesn't

I recently purchased a 2006 Mazda 3 from a dealership and a week after I bought it, I noticed that the A/C didn't turn on one day (no air was blowing). The next time I started the car, the A/C was working fine but I noticed a whirring/clicking sound as it ran that would disappear when I turned the A/C off. Since then it's worked sometimes and hasn't worked others.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
