Question: my car failed the emissions part of smog test and is considered a gross pollluter

our car failed the emissions part with a number of 2000 on the smog test,it has 300,000 miles and were told it has valve gasket leak, maybe need a new cat converter and a couple minor things to fix-we are eligible for CAP program- will these things fix our car so it could pass

If you are at 2000 ppm in HC or Nox, a cat probably won't fix it. If you are eligible for CAP, have a CAP certified shop look at it and just pay the deductible. With 300,000 miles, I would not be surprised if the engine may be ready for replacement.
