Question: My car turns over but won't keep running.

I can drive my car as long as I want but when I shut it off it will turn over but won't start. To get it running I have to give it a lot of gas and the whole car will start to shake. If I let off the gas it will die so I have to constantly give it has to get in gear. Once I start driving for a little bit it's fine. I think that it might be stuck in a gear since my transmission sometimes slips up but I'm not sure.

Sounds more like a sensor problem or misfire. Start by checking fault codes from the engine computer.

Doesn't a light usually turn on when there's a faulty code?

Not always. You should however see the CEL on anytime the key is on and the engine isn't running. If you don't, you might not have power to the ecu or have a bad ecu etc.

See if you can communicate with the ECU and retrieve any codes.
