Question: My daughter's TDI has turbo not working; does it hurt engine to drive the diesel then?

she has been given various answers; I asked VW mechanic at Stan Olsen VW in Omaha & he said it will not hurt the engine; her people in
Chicago disagree...how much is repair, in any case? she lives in Chicago. car has about 55000
miles on it.

If the turbo is pushing oil or coming apart yes it will hurt the engine. The cost will be all over the place it will depend on it she get used, aftermarket, remanned or dealer parts. Also the labor rate will depend on where she goes also. I would call around to find out.
