Question: my jeep seems to be having some sort of power surge

it is making a click sound and then the amps go alll the way up and then back down and the car loses power briefly while in drive but has not yet stopped. it seems like every 60 seconds it is happening this is an old jeep amg dj mail jeep right hand drive
