Question: My subaru legacy GT was "dry of oil" but didn't sieze up, what should I do?

The mechanic at subaru said I need a new lower block to my engine without even looking at it. The turbo was making a clanking noise while the car was running but the lights only came on when I first pulled up to the service bay. It was not driven even .5 miles beyond when the lights came on. Can I just get an oil change and see if it will be ok?

You could, but usually the lights came on too late. And if the turbo is making noise, I suspect the mechanic may be correct.
