Question: My transmission punches quite often when I'm driving. Could a transmission flush fix this problem?

When I'm driving, even if I'm keeping a constant speed, the transmission will jerk or punch at times. The van has 190k miles on it, and I got it 10k miles ago. Is it possible that it could just need a transmission flush? I don't have any problem with power going to the wheels during acceleration. Also, I think I checked the fluid before, and it seemed fairly red. I hope it's not the computer causing the issue, but then again, the engine isn't reporting any codes against the transmission. Would the check engine light report on a transmission problem?

Lots of things can cause abnormal shifting. You'll have to have a transmission shop diagnose whether it's in the transmission itself, or if the transmission is reacting to a sensor giving it poor data.

a flush probably won't fix this type of issue, but if you haven't had it serviced in a long time, it is a good place to start as poor fluid quality can cause problems.

Transmission related codes can turn on the check engine light, but sometime a malfunctioning transmission won't set codes for symptoms like you are describing.

Car Brakes: How Do You Know When to Change Them?

By Zach Bowman For those who suffer a daily commute through heavy traffic, your vehicle's braking system can bring thousands of pounds of metal, plastic and empty Starbucks cups to a stop hundreds of times before you get to work. It goes without saying that these pieces wear out, but they do so slowly, meaning you may not notice they need attention until ...
