Question: Oil leak 1996 Blazer

What is the purpose of the rubber boot that is located between the block and the bellhousing on a 1996 Chevy Blazer. I have oil coming out of this rubber boot.

Sounds like you have a rear main seal leak, and the oil is leaking down through the inspection cover.

The rubber boot or cover is usually for venting and inspection purposes.

Thank you very much..... I had this motor pulled out of another Blazer and replaced all exterior gaskets, pan, valve covers, oil lines..... but did not do the rear main.

Would it be easier to just slide the transmission back to get to this or will I need to lift the motor out?

You can probably do this one just by removing the transmission if you have the correct tools for the seal.

Thanks I think that will be easier then pulling the motor out.
