Question: Oil leaks and question about selling vehicle.

Hi, i recently bought a used 2000 Toyota Solara and noticed shortly after getting it that there were fumes getting into the car that were causing some physical symptoms from me. I went to a mechanic and was told i had leaking gaskets and a rear main seal leak, of which was landing on a hot surface and creating the fumes in the car. The price was too high so i went for a second opinion, they told me the problem was most likely the gaskets so i had them fix them for $433, but the problem is still there. The odorless fumes affect me pretty strongly, what could be close enough to a hot surface that expels fumes right to where i am? Do these mechanics know what they're talking about? Also, im thinking about just selling it, do you think i could get $2500 out of it because of the repairs ive done to to it, but while still having the oil leak/s? Thanks

If ol is dripping on the exhaust system (hot surface), then the smell you are getting is burning oil. Without seeing the vehicle, I can't tell you where the oil is leaking from, but both shops are correct: those places they mention could be where oil is leaking from and dripping on the exhaust.

Check for an estimate of your vehicle in your are. It is pretty good about giving realistic values of vehicles.

Car Brakes: How Do You Know When to Change Them?

By Zach Bowman For those who suffer a daily commute through heavy traffic, your vehicle's braking system can bring thousands of pounds of metal, plastic and empty Starbucks cups to a stop hundreds of times before you get to work. It goes without saying that these pieces wear out, but they do so slowly, meaning you may not notice they need attention until ...
