Question: oil light plus battery light on, won't start, after overfilling oil

A few days ago, the oil light came on for a mile before I topped it off (it was low). Then I changed the oil that night (it was a little past due). Apparently I overfilled it by about 1/2 quart. A couple of days later, the car started lugging on acceleration, sort of sporadic blips that felt like I was going over little cracks in the road or like when you shift into too high a gear and it lurches a little. It would do this in third gear mainly and fifth. The RPMs stayed the same, but the acceleration would just cut out for a millisecond here and there.
30 miles later on the interstate it stalled, and the oil and battery lights came on. I pulled off immediately. I figured it was my overfilling, so I drained it to the right level. But then it wouldn't start, The starter cranks, but engine won't run. Oil light and battery light are still on, but the battery has plenty of juice (all the lights come on when I first turn the key, but only those two stay on after I try cranking it). Any ideas what's wrong?
