Question: parking brake indicator light-bulb works, but is not on

If I know my parking brake dash light works when the key is in the on position to check the dash bulbs, but it does not come on and off when the parking brake is engaged and disengaged, where do I look next. It is not a fuse. I have to pass a brake light inspection since the car has been salvaged. How do I go about looking at the wiring in the parking brake arm itself? If I take it apart, will I ever get it back together again?

First, check to see that your brake lights are working when you step on the brake pedal. If that is fine, and the indicator bulb is good as you said, then checking the switch in the parking brake mechanism is the next step. You may find a repair manual useful (available at any auto parts store) but the following thread has a little disassembly advice:

Car Brakes: How Do You Know When to Change Them?

By Zach Bowman For those who suffer a daily commute through heavy traffic, your vehicle's braking system can bring thousands of pounds of metal, plastic and empty Starbucks cups to a stop hundreds of times before you get to work. It goes without saying that these pieces wear out, but they do so slowly, meaning you may not notice they need attention until ...
