Question: price for throttle body

I was quoted a price for a throttle body for my Volvo s60 AWD. I thought it was a bit high, and wondered what they should cost and how long does it take to replace it? I hate being ripped off. They wanted to charge me $90 for a simple oil change too.

The throttle body lists at $550, gasket about $5 bucks. Labor to replace the unit is booked at 1.5 hours.

As far as the oil change, $90 is pretty reasonable these days, especially if that's at a good shop or a dealership.

The filter lists at $10
The engine takes 6.1 quarts, good synthetic is $8-10 per quart.

And you have the time for someone to actually do the work, it's probably going to take 1/2 hour at least.

Most shops that use quality oil and filters (Not quicklube cheap stuff) break even on oil changes and hope to have you back for bigger services.
