Question: removing rear hatch pistons at the ball joint

How do I separate the old socket from the ball at the joints?

There is probably a release clip at the back of the strut

Well I couldn't pull that ball out of the socket to save my life and no one I asked had a clue... so I Dremelled the ball in half (fortunately the sockets were on the failed strut and not the bracket) and the ball snapped into the new strut... i a snap!
