Question: Screeching Noise from front left tire

When I start moving from a cold stop, there is a screeching/squealing sound from the front left tire. The noise stays that way for maybe a minute or so while I drive and then just stops. Also, during that time frame, the noise seems to ease/disappear temporarily when I hit the brakes. A few times while on the highway, randomly this noise starts up again and then stops after a minute or so... Sounds like metal on metal. The weird thing though, is that it stops when hitting the brakes. Any ideas???
