Question: service ride control

This message has just started to show up on my instrument panel. About 3 weeks ago I was rear ended which caused minimal damage to the trailer hitch. Could this be accident related?

Yes, it could be. But the only way to tell is to have the system scanned for diagnostic codes. The code(s) will tell you where to start looking for the problem.
