Question: shifter ring broke

i have a 2004 mitsubishi lancer raliart. all gears are great but i cant get into reverse. i am prety sure i broke the ring that holds the shifter in that gear but i cant not find the part cause i have no ide what the actual name is ...i held the gear in reverse, stepped on the gas slightly and the car moved then the shifter was forced out of the gear,,,

If you have no reverse, chances are good it's an internal problem. It could be a cable/linkage issue or possibly the shifter itself. You'll need to take it in to a transmission shop to see if it can be repaired, or if a new transmission is needed.
