Question: Should we have to replace fuel injectors on a 2 year old VW?

The EPC light came on with a picture of an engine, the car stalled and would not crank again.
The dealership said it had to replace the fuel injectors because they were sticking open so the engine shut down. Should this happen to a TWO year old engine? Will this probably happen again 2 years from now when it is out of warranty? Is there some way to prevent this from happening in the future?

It goes without saying that these pieces wear out, but they do so slowly, meaning you may not notice they need attention until ...
