Question: speedometer

Needle on instrument panel often won't register speed. Usually worse at speeds below 55 mph. I have replaced gear on transmission one year ago when speedometer failed completely. Some days it works ok & other days it works sometimes?

I would start at the gear again and if there is wires buy the gear then it has a VSS ( vehicle speed sensor ) and I would replace the VSS.
