Question: Squeaky brakes

My Rav 4 brakes screech every morning when I back out of my driveway. My mecahnic checked the brakes and said that the brakes and pads are OK and that I would just have to live with the squeaky brakes. Is there anything else that I can do to stop the squeaky brakes?

You can change the friction material. Even though the brakes are good, sometimes different brands of brake pad or shoes can be quieter than others. So servicing them may reduce the noise.

Thanks Ron,
Is there any particular kind or brand of brake pads that I should install the next time that are quieter?

The more organic the lining the quieter it is. Ceramics are fairly quiet as well. Semi metallic are the noisiest especially if they are heavy duty or fleet duty rated. (Means there's more metal in them.) They last longer, but are rougher and noisier pads.

I will keep this in mind the next time I change my pads.

Car Brakes: How Do You Know When to Change Them?

By Zach Bowman For those who suffer a daily commute through heavy traffic, your vehicle's braking system can bring thousands of pounds of metal, plastic and empty Starbucks cups to a stop hundreds of times before you get to work. It goes without saying that these pieces wear out, but they do so slowly, meaning you may not notice they need attention until ...
