Question: Squeal in power steering

My car has a squeal in its power steering system.
When I turn it on and start driving it doesn't sound, but when I reach a 50 mph velocity there´s a sound similar to a hot coffee pot, that stops when I turn left or rignt, but when it is straight it continuosly sounds.
I replaced the power steering fluid, but there was no change at all.

Have you checked the drive belt? If you only hear it when you are driving 50mph, how do you know it is coming from the power steering?

I checked the drive belt and it looks fine. I assume it is the power steering because the squeal dissapears when I turn right or left. Once the squeal appears at 50 mph it doesn´t dissapear even going slow, but it always disappears when the car completely stops.

Serpentine belts always look good, even when they are bad, so if the belt has not been replaced in a couple of years, it is worth trying that. And when the belt is off, check the bearings in the power steering pump and on any idler pulleys that the belt may be routed on. It sounds like a slipping belt or a bad bearing.

Car Brakes: How Do You Know When to Change Them?

By Zach Bowman For those who suffer a daily commute through heavy traffic, your vehicle's braking system can bring thousands of pounds of metal, plastic and empty Starbucks cups to a stop hundreds of times before you get to work. It goes without saying that these pieces wear out, but they do so slowly, meaning you may not notice they need attention until ...
