Question: Starting Issues

Recently, about 2 - 3 months ago I started noticing that my vehicle is getting harder and harder to start in the mornings or after it has been sitting for a couple of hours. I don't know how many times I have "killed" my battery trying to start my truck. But, if I get a jump from someone, the truck pretty much will fire right up. I have had my battery checked and was told that it is still good and strong. I am thinking it might either be the alternator or the starter because when I crank on it the battery will hold up for a few minutes.

I cannot say that it cranks for a long time because when I try starting my truck, I do not sit there and crank and crank and crank, I just do it in short bursts. Anyways, I took my truck to my mechanic for diagnostics and was told that a good working fuel pump puts out about 65 psi and my fuel pump was only putting out 40 - 45 psi. I just replaced my fuel pump last year and I had put a Delphi fuel pump in it.

Your symptoms and the diagnostics both point to the same direction: fuel pump output too low. It would be worth checking the voltage at the pump to make sure the cause is not a bad connection. If the problem is a defective fuel pump, try contacting the place where you bought it, the part may be warrantied (although it would most likely cover the part and not the labor).
