Question: take my truck to a Chevy dealer or private mechanic?

Has 103,700 miles +/- 50 either way. Driving home yesterday at a stop light, made turn on green then started rev'ing like in neutral. I stopped, engine, AC, all seemed fine, except gears. Would not shift to reverse, D, D1, etc. Turned off about 3min, started back up put it in D and took right off like nothing happened. This morning started it and D would not engage. Same exercise, turned engine off, then came back in for couple of hours then decided to try it again. Started and engaged like nothing was wrong. But I am afraid to drive it if I don't know when it will cut out again and it may damage something driving in this condition. I am guessing taking it to the dealership would be best if it were a newer model, 2013 or even 2012. But most private shops should be up on 2008 diagnostics and be a lot less expensive. Just looking for confirmatin or opinions.

I would make sure the private shop does can area network repair. The problem you is not easy to find. I would take it to a dealer

Car Brakes: How Do You Know When to Change Them?

By Zach Bowman For those who suffer a daily commute through heavy traffic, your vehicle's braking system can bring thousands of pounds of metal, plastic and empty Starbucks cups to a stop hundreds of times before you get to work. It goes without saying that these pieces wear out, but they do so slowly, meaning you may not notice they need attention until ...
