Question: Temp gauge rising

I have a 2001 Cadillac DeVille DHS - recently the temp gauge started rising when I had the AC on - I stopped using it and the temp gauge stayed at 12n - now its rising again when I'm stopped at a red light or idling. Turning the heat on immediately does bring the gauge back to 12 but I know 'something' is wrong and not sure what it is...HELP! Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated
Things I have done thus far: Turning the heat on immediately & checked the coolant reservoir which is normal

Check the cooling system thoroughly for any problems. You could have leaks or a low coolant level. Check the radiator and reservoir, make sure it's full of clean coolant.

You could also have a weak water pump or maybe a sticking thermostat. The radiator could be clogged up internally or the airflow could be blocked going across the radiator. Check the fans etc.

If everything checks out and it still overheats you may have a blown head gasket.

By Zach Bowman For those who suffer a daily commute through heavy traffic, your vehicle's braking system can bring thousands of pounds of metal, plastic and empty Starbucks cups to a stop hundreds of times before you get to work. It goes without saying that these pieces wear out, but they do so slowly, meaning you may not notice they need attention until ...
