Question: The AC Doesn't work,

The fan runs blowing air, but it doesn't get cool. Can I charge it myself?

A 1971 vehicle's AC system uses R12 refrigerant. To buy R!2 you need to be licensed. So it's not really a do it yourself repair. And since it doesn't work you are going to need a shop to isolate why it's non functional.

As to why it doesn't work, there are many reasons, but without looking at it (especially on a vehicle so old) there is no way for me to tell you why.

Your best bet is to have a shop look at it.
