Question: thermostat off to the right?

Had 2 thermostat's replaced over the last 3 years to correct my temp gage from moving to the right of the straight up position on my panel.
Same thing happened again this winter.

My mechanic ran a computer analysis to see if it was the temp gage on my transmission. Neg. Said the automatic clutch needed to be replace, and if that didn't fix the problem I wouldn't pay for that fix, and would put in another thermostat.
Do you have, or give me your opinion on this situation, if any?

I would get another person to look at it. If they come up with the same thing.I would try the thermostar again. If you fan cluct is bad. He should be able to test it. So I would try another shop.
