Question: Throttle Body cleaning and replacement

What does it typically cost to replace a Throttle Body in a Lexus IS 300 sports cross from 2005? Is it typical to have to replace this because of dirt build up at about 60,000 miles? Is this avoidable had my mechanic recommended to clean the throttle at an earlier time?

It is unusual to need to replace the throttle body at 60K miles, most can be cleaned (if possible, see below about cleaning) and don't need replacement.

If it has excessive build up, it may be due to driving habits more than anything else. Short trips in town tend to lead to build up.

Cleaning is sometimes recommended and sometimes not. You should contact your dealer for your particular vehicle. Some TB have a coating on them that can be damaged with cleaning. In those cases, not only can't it be cleaned, if it gets too dirty, it may need replacement.
