Question: transmission issues

my vehicle is having difficulty shifting between 2-3 or 1-2. I had a water bottle behind my shifter and went to shift it into drive and the water bottle was in the way. The shifter nob shot off and I had to reconnect the whole thing. Now the shifter does not really set in the correct location. If I slam the shifter into drive then I will not have any issue with the slipping transmission, if I do not slam it appropriately it will have issues shifting.
It is a sealed transmission and cannot check the fluid on my own..what should I do and how much would I expect it to cost to fix it?

I would have the shifter and cable checked. The cost will be around $200. To look at it. Then it will go uo from there.
