Question: Tried to start my ford truck , It backfired and blew the valve covers off What would cause this?

Blew the valve covers off my engine when I tried to start after sitting over winter

Gas got into the oil. When you went to start the car it could have got a little back fire into the valve cover. Which cause the gas fumes to explode. I would change your oil and see if there is a lot of gas in it. Then I would check the carburator for leaks.
