Question: trying to see if 440 is locked up without tearing down

i have a 440 and 727 torque flight still bolted together that is not in a car can i hook a battery to it and jump it off the solenoid just to see if the motor is not locked up??

I would not do that. I would use a socket and ratchet to turn the engine over. That will tell you if it's locked up or not.
