Question: What causes low oil pressure?

The low oil pressure light keeps coming on in my Buick Rendezvous. It did this last Friday, and we noticed it was slightly low on oil so added a quart. The light started coming on again today (Tuesday). I checked the oil, and it is still full. There are no spots in the driveway or work parking lot to indicate an oil leak. The light comes on when I apply my brakes. What else could cause low oil pressure, and is it ok to drive my vehicle until repaired?
