Question: what could be wrong with my gas tank?

when i try putting gas in my tank the pump just keep kicking back like its full, i can get about $4.00 with constant pump stopping before gas starts spilling out of the top and then i can do about 5 cents at a time to about 14 which is nowhere near full.
