Question: what do i need to do when my car is stuck in park

I got in my 87 pathfinder and started it I put my car in reverse and it wouldn't go no were I put it in drive still nothing. The gear shifter works just fine it just want go in gear what is wrong

The first thing to check is your ATF level. If the fluid is low, the transmission will not shift. If the level is high but the fluid is burnt or has metal specks in it, having the transmission serviced (and inspected at the same time) is the next step. A 'service' means having the fluid and filter replaced.
