Question: What is the purpose of the heat activated air valve .

In the fitting that connects the upper radiator hose to the engine block there is a valve with two air lines in it. It must open or close when the engine coolant changes temperature. What does it operate, and what do I call it when I need to order a new one?

Probably to control the idle as the engine warms up etc.

Maybe take it down to your local parts store and have them help you order it.
