Question: what is wrong; battery, transmission, everything?

My husbands car died while driving last week. Someone tried to jump it but it wouldn't take. The thing that concerns me is that my husband hasn't had his car serviced in well over a year...and I know that that could wreak havok on the engine. I just want to know what could possibly be wrong so I can guesstimate how much it will cost to repair

Hard to say without seeing the vehicle. You really need someone to look at it. If it was low on oil, the engine could have internal damage, but it could be as simple as a battery or alternator issue. A few diagnostic tests are needed to see what happened. Most shop can diagnose it for under $100.
