Question: what makes my car overheat

You need to check the coolant in the radiator to make sure it's full. If it is you check the thermostat to make sure it opens. Also check to make sure the cooling fans come on. If both radiator hoses are hot then the thermostat should be good. But thermostat could be open only part way. That could cause the over heat. If the fans don't come on you will need to have them checked.
