Question: what might be the problem?

I was driving down the road and my car died and now will not start. When I have tried to start it there is a metal grinding that I am not sure exactly where in the engine it is coming from. there have also been some over heating problems.

Based on the overheating issue and the noise, it sounds like you may have an internal engine failure. You should have a shop look at it and don't try to restart it as you may cause more damage by doing so..
