Question: What to do when gas cap has the inner piece missing?

I noticed that my gas cap for my 2000 Grand Cherokee Laredo had the inner piece missing in the gas cap. I had water in the gas tank and treated it today. The car rides very smooth now, but the engine light is on and I do believe it is related to the missing piece in the gas cap. How do we recitfy this problem. Thank you

Sounds like your first step is to replace the gas cap.

Read the codes from the engine computer and record them, then clear them.

They are probably related to the evap system.
