Question: What would make a noise from front driver side when braking lightly

I just purchased this car. I heard the noise before buying it and pointed it out. Mechanic said it was something loose with the brakes and he tightened it. The car still makes a kind of dock dock dock grinding sound when I brake. I took it back and they said that the brakes are safe and check out. They don't know what the noise is. I am not too happy about this. Can you help? Thanks. Lori

I would have a second shop look at it. It sounds like it is probably brake related and the first shop is missing something. Possibly warped rotors.
