Question: When replacing just brake pads at 45,000 miles is it necessary to replace hardware and bleed brakes

took car to mechanic, this is what I told needed to be done. bleeding the brakes was maintenance as well as replacing hardware....he said I didnt have to bleed the brakes just recommended and that my brake fluid was still clean.

That mechanic just failed my test for being trained and knowledgeable. You do need to flush the brake fluid every two years. http://www.examiner.com/article/the-importance-of-vehicle-maintenance-the-brake-fluid-flush
